Our Mission

At Mission: Winter Warmth for WNC, our purpose is simple yet powerful: to provide lifesaving warmth and essential resources to the residents of Western North Carolina affected by the devastating impact of Hurricane Helene.

With the arrival of winter and many areas still without power due to the extensive damage caused by the hurricane, thousands of families face the harsh mountain cold without reliable sources of heat. Our mission is to bridge this gap by delivering much-needed generators, propane heaters, winter coats, gloves, sleeping bags, and other vital supplies.

Led by founder Jason Lindsay, who has a deep personal connection to the challenges of natural disasters, we are driven to take immediate and impactful action. Through fundraising, partnerships, and the dedication of volunteers, we aim to bring warmth and comfort to the communities hardest hit—ensuring they not only survive the winter but also feel the support of a caring nation.

By working together, we can save lives, one family, one neighborhood, one community at a time. Join us in our mission to make sure no one faces the cold alone this winter.

Jason Lindsay is Founder of Mission Winter Warmth for WNC

As a North Carolina native born in Sampson County, about an hour from the coast, he grew up experiencing hurricanes. While in high school, devastating Hurricane Fran left a lasting mark on Jason. His area experienced severe flooding, long term power outage and his family farm suffered severe damage. Watching his home state suffer the devastating blow of Hurricane Helene, one of the deadliest in U.S. history, he had to act to help Western North Carolina. He has raised funds, organized donations and volunteered on the ground doing relief efforts. While volunteering, he saw just how catastrophic the damage was and heard how the power company had told residents in certain areas it could take months to restore power. It was already getting cold in the mountains and heard reports of deaths from hypothermia where folks didn’t have electricity or heat. While truckloads of everyday items were pouring in, there were not enough expensive generators, propane heaters, propane tanks, accessories and also winter weather coats, gloves and extreme cold sleeping bags. From that experience, it became his Mission to raise funds, secure donated equipment, and distribute winter warmth to the residents of western North Carolina.

Jason has 24 years of leadership experience, first serving in the U.S. Army Reserves, where he deployed to Iraq. After graduating from North Carolina State University, he moved to Washington, D.C.  to attend graduate school at the John’s Hopkins University. He has worked in many roles, including working for a U.S. Congressman and a U.S. Senator that represented North Carolina. He has also served as the Founder and the Executive Director of a national public safety advocacy organization. His work has provided him the valuable skills of leadership, public communication, fundraising, management and strategic thinking. His background will allow him to successfully strategize, fundraise, procure essential winter warmth items and work with local organizations to distribute these resources in an efficient and organized way to maximize benefit to those in need.
